Floors – today there are so many more options than every before. Don’t be fooled into thinking the most expensive is the best. Choose floor materials for its "properties."

For example, too many choose tile because they think it’s the best there is. The fact is if you have young children or aged parents living with you – this may not be the best choice. Instead choose from one of the softer flooring options. Often the cost is just as expensive as tile, but it will perform better and save your china, children and loved ones from breaking!

Wood floors are turning dark – real dark. I’m seeing for black or close-to-black stained and painted floors than ever. Finished with a rich sheen – they are perfect for more contemporary spaces.

The kitchen is usually the heart of the home – they are many inexpensive ways to bring fall into this space.

• Replace white candles with spice-toned candles.
• Even a glass top table can be a display for fall leaves. Try making a table runner out of fake leaves from a craft store. Or use stick-ons – they cling to non-porous surfaces such as glass and tile – Perfect for a glass top table.
• Replace seat cushions with fall patterned fabrics. It’s easy to slipcover your existing seat cushions and pillows.
• Change accessories – add branches and grasses – a new border or two – even a new area rug can transform your kitchen into a winter hearth.
• Take up sisal rugs and replace with an oriental.
• Fills bowels with seasonal veggies – turnips, yams, and rutabagas. Or fill a basket with apples.

While you’re making all these wonderful changes and additions – take the opportunity to clean and organize. One trick I suggest to clients is to photograph their spaces – you’ll will be amazed at what you see in the photos. It’s difficult to have an objective opinion about our homes. The camera doesn’t lie and it gives you the perspective that many of your visitors have. I can guarantee – you’ll be cleaning out and getting rid of a lot of "extras" from your rooms.
